Meet the Potter
Evan developed his talent for pottery going back seven years to middle school. He started out experimenting with lumpy, heavy forms creating all kinds of things from animals to outdoor planters. He learned patience with that clay and today he can most often be found turning beautiful, functional kitchenware.
A potter for sure, and Evan is also autistic. His tendency to be hyper-focused on tasks, his unique problem-solving process and skills, and his exceptional creativity and imagination have only contributed to his growth as a potter. His dream to have a business selling his pottery is now a reality. With the help of his family, Evan formed Progressive Pottery and enjoys sharing his wares at local community shows and markets.
Evan’s favorite pieces are what he calls functional kitchenware, incorporating angles and flat edges. Kitchenware became a focus probably because he loves to be cooking in the kitchen! Every day he uses plates and bowls he made himself. It brings him such joy and hopes it does for all who support his business.
“Pottery requires a passion that will be present in your art. If no passion … you’re just playing in the dirt.” -Evan Selleck
